The Hotel of Many Forgotten Places

Nora checked into a seedy hotel and discovered halfway through the night that it was made up entirely of thirteen floors missing from other hotels. Nora discovered two of the thirteen floors that were from hotels in Egypt and China, but how does she get out? As we navigate this perplexing story we will follow Nora as she entageled herself in several places and perceived a way to get out of this very peculiar hotel.

Nora was hesitant to stay at a sketchy hotel in New York, but she was a full time college student and was trying to save money. Nora was attending Columbia University but was trying to get a part-time job to help with paying her student loans. In the morning she had an interview, and then right after her interview she planned to drive back to her dorm. She was very nervous about her interview and was going to have an exam on Monday. So she had plenty of studying to keep her nerves somewhat steady.

After mounting the many steps to her room Nora unpacked her well thought out outfit for her interview. Nora was studying for an exam, and it was getting a little warm in her room, so she thought that a cold glass of water would be good for her. She left her room in search of the icebox. After looking at the hotel map, she located the ice box machine on the sixth floor, and Nora’s room was on the top floor of the thirteen floor hotel. As she took the stairs down to the sixth floor she noticed the temperature of the air around her rising so extremely that she was obliged to remove her sweater. She found the icebox and started to fill the small bucket, then she realized that the ice was melting extremely fast, and Nora was starting to sweat. She could also hear faint voices speaking a language that she could not recognise. She walked out of the icebox room and walked toward the voices. She went down a hallway that led out to a balcony so different in style than that of the floor that Nora’s room was located. She looked around herself on the balcony and was looking down upon a village market. Everywhere she looked there was sand and dust, and the sun was scorching hot. She was absolutely starstruck. She didn’t know what to do. She realized this mysterious country was Egypt. She could see the pyramids tall on the horizon. Down in the bustling market monkeys, baskets, beer, and bread were being sold. Old men were happily conversing with each other. And the women were busily cooking and weaving baskets. Nora was overwhelmed with curiosity, and could not wait to explore this small productive market. As she made her way back into the hotel to get to the ground level she decided to take the elevator. She was so excited about this extreme and impossible discovery that Nora didn't think twice about whether or not there were any other concealed surprises in the hotel. Nora pressed the lobby level button and the elevator went sideways! Then the elevator stated whirling around in circles up toward the ceiling. Nora hit her head and was knocked unconscious.

Some time later Nora woke up on the floor of the elevator. She hurriedly ran out of this abnormal elevator. She perceived that she was still in the same hotel, but once again the floor she was on was decorated in such a different style than the other two levels that it felt like it was a totally different hotel. There was an extreme hue of red cast over this level of the hotel Nora noticed as she kept walking, hoping to find the staircase. It was sunset hour on this level. Long red shadows stretched tall on the walls and ceiling. Nora once again found a window and observed hundreds possibly thousands of chinese red lanterns. Nora looked down upon a massive crowd of people. Nora was getting more uneasy about her situation, fear surged through her, to her very fingertips. She darted back to the elevator and hurriedly searched the halls for the door to the stairs. All Nora was a blur of room doors and the mysterious red shadows seemed to close in on her. Nora was beginning to panic and hot tears of frustration and confusion ran uncontrollably down her face that was so deeply etched with worry. She tripped over something and her shaking body fell limp to the floor. She lay there fully conscious, but so gripped by fear that she would never be able to figure out how to get out of this mind boggling circumstance. Her eyes were blurred with tears and a wave of drowsiness overcame her. Nora fell into a heavy slumber curled up on the floor located in China.

Nora, still gripped tightly by a lingering comatose, could feel strong arms around her. She wanted to look up and reveal the identity of the stranger, but in her sleep all the worry and anxiety had melted away, and the warmth of the cradling arms felt safe and secure. After several minutes Nora slowly opened her eyes and rested them upon a sharp, dark, masculine face. The dark serious eyes flashed down to her and made Nora feel nervous. Nora broke the stare and looked at her surroundings; they were in the elevator! She was becoming more aware and her fears and anxiety were rising from her past experience in the elevator. She looked back at the mysterious stranger and his face was calm but unsmiling. Nora tried to calm herself, and realised the elevator was operating normally. Just then the doors of the elevator opened and the muscular man stepped out, and walked down the hallway and opened a room door without a key. Nora was slightly astounded as they entered the room that it was her hotel room. Thick textbooks were scattered about the room and there on the bed was her interview outfit. The man laid her on the bed and with a single word or sound and left.

After several minutes of contemplation and silence Nora started hurriedly packing. It did not take long, and she quickly found the door for the stairs. Even though the elevator had worked normally when the mysterious man was holding her, she still didn’t trust it in this impossible hotel. Nora made it to the lobby and asked the receptionist to be refunded, the employee calmly informed Nora that it was only an hour from when Nora had checked in. Nora was confused and considerably shaken; she hastily abandoned the hotel in search of a far more suitable hotel. And she didn’t bother how expensive the hotel was either.

Nora discovered two of the thirteen floors that were from hotels in Egypt and China, but how does she get out? Watch out for unexpected things that might happen when you are the least prepared for them.
